Custom Laser Etching FAQ

What type of images can be used?
We can use virtually any kind of image formats available, ranging from digital images (.pdf, .jpg, etc.) to actual photos.  Not sure if your idea or image can be used to be permanently etched into a tile, just ask!  Please keep in mind if the image is copyrighted we will need a signed release from the photographer to copy the image.

How does the type of image used impact the quality?
As with any kind imaging and reproduction, the output of the process can be limited by the quality of the original.  Digital images will usually produce the highest quality of etching, while copy of newspaper printings can be difficult to work with.

How long does it take to complete a tile?
Generally tiles are completed in 2-3 business days.  We always give our customers estimated completion dates and will do our best to accommodate rush requests.

Can I use it outdoors?
Different materials will hold up differently to the elements.  Generally speaking, sealed granite surfaces perform perfectly even when exposed to the elements.

What types of materials can be used for etching?
Most laser etching is done on granite because of its durability and minimal porosity.  Darker surfaces generally work better, although glass and mirrors can be ideal candidates for laser etching images.

Other materials that can be etched include marble, steel, ceramics, limestone and wood.  Will the material you have in mind work for your laser etching project?  Call our experts to find out!

What types of materials do you carry?
We generally stock black granite and marble, although we have outlets for many other kinds of materials.  Please call for a price quote on other materials and you are always welcome to bring in your own material for consultation.

Are you limited to sizes listed?
No.  Standard sizes are offered only as a means of offering standard pricing models.  The size of the tiles we can etch is limited only by the capacities of our equipment.  The largest material we can accommodate today is 24" L x 36" ”W x 1 3/8" T.  Please call for estimates on custom sizes.
